YouTube Yummies

Not much knitting happening here, so I thought I would share a couple of really cool things I found on YouTube this week.

The first is 12-year-old singer, Abby Miller, of Virginia. She’s been making the local press here this week because of a fundraising video/PSA she created to help a 4-year-old girl with neuroblastoma. Check out this amazing young singer:

Abby has been featured on the TV news and in the Washington Post this week, and when I checked out her YouTube page, I was amazed! Enjoy!

Next is a new videocast by Carin, AKA, Alcariel, who gained podcasting experience by guesting from time to time on another podcast, which I won’t mention, but the knitters all know which one it is. It’s called Round the Twist, and here’s a sample episode:

I hope Carin doesn’t mind me posting this to her blog, but the “embed” feature on YouTube makes it handy, and I told her I’d help to promote her new adventure. Check it out!

As for me, I’m still in the knitting doldrums, and I don’t know why! Sigh. I just need to cast on something new and be done with it. Once again I’ve knit about 5 rows all week. On a scarf. Where is my mojo?

Sigh…

Tiny Knitting, HUGE Bag

I’ve been knitting in a small way. A teeny tiny way. See this? It’s a miniature log cabin afghan, just started. In sock yarn. It’s probably going to be no more than 5 inches wide and maybe 6 or so inches tall. The photo is deceiving; it’s probably no bigger than a postage stamp now.

What’s it for? Why knit something so painfully small? Well, that part I can’t say. But I do hope it’s going to be fabulous. I like small knitted things. I’m fascinated by knitted miniatures, and how detailed they can be despite their miniscule size. Have you seen this video on YouTube? It’s miniature knitting as a true art form:

In contrast to the really small, something really big came in the mail today!

Namaste Hermosa Tote

Namaste Hermosa Tote

It’s the Namaste Hermosa Tote, in eggplant, of course! OMG is this thing HUGE! It’s not really a purse, like the other bags are. It’s more a giant tote, with a nice firm bottom that stands well on its own. It has an attached “saddlebag” thingy on the outside, great for stashing knitting tools, or purse-y stuff or whatever. There are pockets on the inside and out, and the main compartment is so cavernous that one could easily carry an afghan in progress or a REALLY big sweater to knit group. There’s also a large pocket on the outside perfect for carrying sheet patterns so they don’t get rumpled by being jammed in the bag.

What I don’t know is whether this bag will be an everyday use sort of thing. It’s really so big I wonder if It’ll get in my way more than not. But, I also bought this:

Namaste Small Clutch

It’s the Namaste Small Clutch, also in eggplant. It’s sort of a wallet, but bigger, and I’m hoping that this in combination with the clutch will make it easy to grab the money and other necessities of life, for those times when I need to just leave the tote and go. I’ll do the ol’ purse switcharoo tomorrow, so I’ll be able to give a review of what I like and don’t like in the coming days. Wish me luck!

I have more to tell but it will have to wait for another day. My pillow beckons. Ciao!

Sounds of Spring

I was going to do a quick post this morning, complaining about the dark and dreary state of this Monday morning, something evoking an old Carpenter’s song, you know… “Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down…” But then, I opened my front door, and heard this:

Spring is here. Enjoy.

Family Movies

Not much happening today; just another lazy Sunday. Didn’t get much knitting done and haven’t finished photo editing from knit group yesterday. So, I leave you with these two clips of family moments of the week.

This first one is what happens when you let the cat’s water bowl run dry; she’s not shy about getting her point across!

And this is what happens when you let BoyZilla browse among the electronic musical toys at Target on a Friday night:

Both kids came home with excellent report cards on Friday so we let them go to Target and choose a small reward. For Her Highness the Teen it was the Twilight DVD, which has now been watched a handful of times. BoyZilla picked a light sabre toy from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is the new hot thing around here among 6-8 year old boys. I got another pair of headphones for my iPod. Exciting, huh?

Well, I guess I have some work to catch up on before morning gets here, which is already too soon from now. Ciao!

When the Mooooooon Is in the Seventh House… And Jupiter aligns with….

Venus!

Tonight as we were picking up the kids from school, we noticed bright lights in the sky, near the moon. On the car radio, we quickly learned that for at least a couple hours this evening, Jupiter and Venus would be visible next to the moon. None of us in this house had ever seen anything like it, so we all agreed this must be something special. My camera doesn’t know how to focus on objects that twinkle in the sky, but the video function did much better. My DH was able to capture this quick little clip so we’ll always remember what we saw.

Not much knitting today. I got a couple more rows done on Diana’s hat. Hopefully tomorrow morning before I start telecommuting I can knock out the rest of the body and start the ribbing. I can’t wait!

It’s a typical Monday after a holiday around here. Which means the little one is a homework refusnik and the older one called in the afternoon, complaining of a “headache” and wondering if we could pick her up early. Nope, kid, go back to class. Ugh. Better sign off for now and reel the little one back in. Wish me luck, and hopefully there will be a knitting update tomorrow.

Ciao!
