I was sitting in the very back of our large community theater. My daughter, the one with the blue hair, was a small speck of a kid on the stage. And THIS, this photo? From my seat, all the way to her, with NO flash.
Not bad, eh?
Oh. And neither was the concert. Festival’s this Friday, and my fingers are crossed.
Wow, has it been two weeks already? Where have I been?
I’ve been knitting a lot. On the stealth project known only as “E.B.” Here’s a stealthy photo:
I’ve been knitting on this thing like crazy, and I’ve made steady progress, but it’s slow. Really slow. Something tells me it will be a while before the intended recipient of this gift will actually see it. Which, is why, in a way, I tackle such large projects when I set my mind to do a gift. It is, at least, the sort of gift that doesn’t have an expiration date, just in case it really does take me forever to finish it.
I’m almost done with the first white band and hope to finally be starting the color pattern before the end of the weekend. Nothing fancy, since there’s already a textured pattern going on, but just some really wide stripes.
Tonight we went to the pool with one kid in tow and I got to sit and relax, and knit. The boy child has mastered the high dive this summer, and I’ve been promising him I’d shoot him in action, so here goes:
And here’s a couple of flower shots:

I’m still really loving my new camera.
I’m itching to write lately. I’ve had a story dancing around in my head for years. I’m thinking I’m going to take the next step and do an outline. And then this winter, I’m going to write it. Stephanie Meyer once said on Oprah that she started writing the Twilight series in chapter 12 of the first book. I’m in the same sort of situation in that the characters I’ve been dreaming of have quite an intense scene that plays out somewhere in the middle, but I’m not quite sure how the story starts or ends. This should be interesting… wish me luck! It’s been a long time since I’ve attempted some serious writing.
School starts in two weeks. I’m not ready for the summer to be over. But please, don’t tell my kids. It’ll be our little secret. Knit group is tomorrow and if I don’t go to bed now I’ll be falling asleep in my tea again. Wait, it is tomorrow already. Uh, oh. I’m in trouble. Until next time…
Ok, so more than a few! Yes, that’s a yardstick, showing how many inches of snow we had in our yard this afternoon. The snow started with a quick shower at about 10 a.m. on Friday, and then began in earnest at right about noon. The kids got out of school early and John didn’t bother to go in since we pretty much figured he’d have to turn right around and get them anyway.
The snow blew fast and furious through the night, in a way that I don’t think I have ever seen in my whole life. Blizzards are a rare thing in these parts! The last storm with this much snow all at once happened more than a hundred years ago. 30 to 38 inches was common all over the area. We had just under three feet, I think, and goodness knows when we’ll be able to emerge from the house again. The driveway is slowly getting done but it will be a bit more time before John can dig the vans out.
It’s all good… we’ve got Netflix on Demand, lots of hot chocolate, and no shortage of toilet paper around here. I’m reminding myself often that this is the sort of thing I’ve been wishing for, a few days where I have no choice but to stay home and make myself enjoy it. And enjoying it I am!
The one downer is that my wheelchair charger failed last night and so my batteries are rapidly dying. I do have a spare chair but it hurts my back in an awful way. It’ll probably be the end of the week before I can get to where the wheelchair place is, which is about an hour from here. There always has to be something…
Here’s a gallery of photos of the snowfall around our house. Please do ignore the fact that I did not do my hair or my makeup this morning… I figured no one would be seeing me today. This’ll teach me! (As usual, click on the thumbnail to see a larger photo.)
And here’s our video of the snowfall:
The rest of the weekend (and probably Monday, too) will be for cleaning up and digging out. And more digging, and more digging… but that’s ok. There’s a steamy pot of chili waiting.
I’ve been in a blogging funk all week, so I thought maybe I’d better show up before the few readers I do have start disappearing on me. The truth is there hasn’t been much happening here and I’m kinda stuck, knitting wise, so not much to blog about. I wound some pink yarn last week with the intention of casting on a small, carry-along project in time to have something to take to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, but I’ve been so unmotivated, I haven’t even done that. The truth is I hate casting on, and I’ve been avoiding it altogether. So I’ve been knitting on the sweater:

Apparently, Tegan wasn’t too thrilled about posing with the knitting; apparently she is completely blissfully unaware of the important connection between knitting and cats. Perhaps Lucy can fill her in.
I’m just about to the point of the huge knot in my yarn for the sweater. I’m trying to decide whether I should cut it and work on it and start a new ball, or if I should just stick it out? Something tells me the whole ball is just a mess inside, despite being wound on my ball winder. Some yarns are just like that. I swear some of them delight in getting themselves all knotted up into a giant cobweb that would try even the most patient soul. Patience is not one of my virtues, so we shall see whether I painstakingly pick apart the knots in this ball, or I just fling it at the wall instead.
Anybody wanna take bets?
Meanwhile, I gotta figure out what to take with me, knitting-wise, on Saturday. As per usual I won’t be wearing any completed knits (as if I have any) so at least I need to look like a knitter and bring something in progress. Hopefully I’ll get motivated to start something new before then. Taking the sweater in progress to the festival? Out of the question. I don’t want to get any festival ick on my silk.
